Congo and Lucky Off to Hennef - 26 August 2009
Former Namibia dazzling midfielder Johannes Congo Hindjou and compatriot Lucky Kakuva leaves for Germany this week to attend a coaching course in Hennef, Germany.
The duo joins other aspiring coaches from other 17 counties including, Zambia, Swaziland, South Africa and Mozambique at the International Coaching course in Hennef starting August 31 to September 18. Namibia Football Association (NFA) Secretary General Barry Rukoro said the process is facilitated by the cooperation by the German Foreign Affairs Ministry, the German FA and the NFA.
"Our thanks always goes to the German government and the DFB (German FA) for their continued technical support in enriching our coaches with the necessary skills and knowledge that can benefit our games enormously", Rukoro said. Hindjou recently led a second division side to second place finish before joining up with former Brave Warriors teammate Ronnie Kanalelo as co-coaches at the ambitious Walvis Bay Premiership side Eleven Arrows.
"I feel so blessed that I will attend this course thanks to the NFA and the DFB. I started coaching last season and just used my experience from my playing days and working with coaches like (Rusten) Mogane, (Ted) Dumitru, (Bernard) Kaanjuka amongst others have helped as well. Kakuva, formerly, Hindjou teammate at the now defunct Liverpool FC, and now coach premiership side Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) is excited about the course.
"My ultimate goal is to become a professional coach and course like this do come in handy because you cannot just rely on experience, you need qualifications too. And I'm glad to be granted this chance and surely looking forward to it", Kakuva said. He also hinted on taking up a national team at any level in the future and contributes to development. "I'm now also coaching the SKW under-17s and will be work towards helping the kids whenever", he stated.

Brave Warriors host Swaziland
The Tafel Lager Brave Warriors plays Swaziland's Sihlangu on Saturday at the Windhoek's Sam Nujoma Stadium in an International FIFA Friendly match.
The Warriors started training on Monday morning with local players and was joined in the afternoon sessions by the foreign legion based in South Africa, with the rest of the players to join the camp in the due course.
Razundara Tjikuzu was expected to check in at the Hosea Kutako International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
Kick-off time is still to be confirmed.
Meanwhile the Match officials for the match ahs been confirmed and will be coming from Angola.
They are referee Romualdo do Rosario Baltazar to be assisted by compatriots, Jerson Emiliano dos Santos and Dinilson de Almeida.
Also confirmed is the arrival of the Swazi national team. The visiting team will arrive on Wednesday and departs Sunday back home.

Namibia finish 2nd in Angola
The national youth side finished second in the Angolan FESA under-20 Tournament last weekend.
The four-nation tournament that was played on round-robin basis saw Namibia losing 1-0 via a penalty against host Angola, before they held Botswana to a 2-2 stalemate with Eslin Kamuhanga and the newest kid on the block, Hansa Rostock defensive midfielder Manfred Starke scoring for Namibia.
"It was impressive performance from the team. We did not expect them to play so well and against Botswana, they were all over them and could have scored more", reports NFA Technical Director Klaus Starke, who assisted Richard Starke in coaching the team.
The Namibian youngsters then went on to beat Malawi 2-1 in a dramatic match with Kamuhanga joined by Neville Tjiueza on the score-sheet.
Namibia finished behind Angola, with Malawi in third place and Botswana finishing last.
"We had five new players and they settled in well and its augurs well for the future of the team", Staerk said, referring to Ikuaterua Tjozongoro, Manfred Starke, Wallace Mosiane, Samuel Goagoseb and Alpheus Handura.
The team will be kept for the annual COSAFA under-20 Championship in South African as the NFA continues with the "New Dawn" Program.
"We have to work with the current junior's team for three years at each level before they graduate to the next and I'm happy that so far we are on track. In Gobabis a team was selected too and so the all is great with regard to development", Staerk said,

FIFA Women Football Boss Visits Namibia
IFA Women's Football Development Manager, Mayrilian Cruz Blanco will visit Namibia next week to familiarize herself with the latest developments in Namibia Women's football development. The Cuban-born Blanco will arrive on Tuesday afternoon and will meet the Namibia Football Association's General Secretary Barry Rukoro, Technical Director Klaus Staerk and NFA Women Football head Jacky Gertze, at the Soccer House. The FIFA delegate will on Wednesday meet with relevant stakeholders in Women Football advancement, the Ministry of Sport, the Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU), the Namibia Sport Commission, UNICEF and the volunteer-group SCORE to learn about the progress and issues related to women football. "WE are looking forward to her visit as we are proud of what we have achieved so far with regard to development of the game", Gertze said. Blanco will be the guest of honour at the Girls Football Match at 17h00 between Young Beauties and Emma Hoogenhout under-14 s at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Wednesday. A press briefing will be organised for Thursday 10h30 at the Soccer House before Blanco departs back to Zurich in the afternoon. "It will just be about what her impression are of our desk and probably recommendations", added Gertze. Blanco department is tasked with promoting and developing women's and girls' football, Improve the infrastructure of women's football in the member associations and increase the proportion of women and girls playing football at the grassroots, in schools and at amateur and professional levels, amongst others.

YDF program Launch
The Youth Development through Football (YDF) program will officially be launched on Friday afternoon at the Soccer House in Katutura.
The program which is a partnership between the Namibia Football Association (NFA), Goethe-Zentrum Windhoek and the German Technical Group (GTZ) started off in July this year with youth workshops in various towns.
YDF is aimed at rooting out social evils amongst the youth and concentrate on responsible living with workshops involving the youth on issues such as drugs, alcohol, HIV/AIDS and football.
"We have had motivational workshops in four towns now with program and we going for more. We also lay foundation for formations of youth leagues in area we visit and we have done four so far", Jakes Amaning, Co- Coordinator of the Program said.
YDF has so far visited Okakarara, Opuwo, Oshakati and Outjo.
The Launch program on Friday starts at 14h00 and will amongst others include Seven-Aside games with the national under-17 players at the KASU Field next to the Soccer House, musical performances by renowned artists Gazza, Tequila and the Street Kidz and a Fashion Show.
Sports Deputy Minister Pohamba Shifeta and Deputy German Ambassador to Namibia Matthias Hansen will officially launch the YDF program.
Saturday will see the Khomas Under-17 league in conclusion with the program starting at 09h00 as the Media Team takes on the Diplomats. The coaches XI and the Social league XI will meet at 10h00. At 11h00, Ongete and Navarra will contest the Losers' final of the League with the main Final to kickoff at 12h00 between Rebels and Golden Boys.
Long-time football sponsors MTC have injected N$ 25 000 into the prize money and trophies and medals for the league, having also sponsored the league last year.

Künzer Arrives for Galz & Goals Project Launch
German Women soccer legend Nia Künzer arrives in Namibia on Wednesday for the NFA-UNICEF GALZ & GOALS Project to be launched on Friday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
Born in Mochudi, Botswana as Nia Tsholofelo Künzer (her first and second name being Swahili for "bliss" and "hope"), during her parents' two years tour with a development aid organization, Nia played defense and midfield with football clubs Eintracht Wetzlar and VfB Gießen and had been with 1. FFC Frankfurt (1st Frankfurt Women's Football Club) from 1997 until her retirement in July 2008 due to injury. NFA Women Desk Chief Jacky Gertze welcomes Künzer to Namibia: "She such an iconic lady whom many female soccer players wish to emulate and having her at the opening of our Gals and Goals Project will be so sentimental to all of us". Künzer scored the Golden Goal in the final match against Sweden as Germany won the 2003 World Cup and, with the goal voted as the "Goal of the Year" in the history of German football. Nia actively promotes the idea of women's soccer and helps in recruiting from the next generation of enthusiastic young girls. The Galz and Goals programme, also supported by SCORE Namibia, is an initiative to create football leagues for girls at under 13 and under 15 levels, and will use this platform to promote individual health and social responsibility. The project will also develop a curriculum for teaching healthy lifestyles, which includes information on HIV/AIDS prevention, drug and alcohol abuse and gender discrimination, among other topics. The launch will be followed by a 2-day festival, with training for coaches and a football tournament for girls' teams in Windhoek. Launches in four other regions will follow, culminating in a NFA training camp to select the Namibia girls' squad to visit South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Other dignitaries at the launch will be Namibia's Sport Minister Willem Konjore, UNICEF representative Ian Macleod, NFA Secretary General Barry Rukoro and the Director of Women Football at the NFA and National Manger fro SCORE Namibia Jacqui Shipanga.

NFA and SportFive Agrees
The Namibia Football Association has finally sealed an agreement with worldwide broadcasting giants SportFive in the build-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
According to NFA Secretary-General Barry Rukoro, the agreement that runs up to June 11 2010, will see SportFive facilitating Pre-World Cup friendly matches in Namibia.
" it will be a great chance for Namibia to host World Cup teams either playing against Namibia or amongst themselves, but significantly these matches will be played in Namibia", Rukoro explained.
In addition, SportFive will assist in the upgrading of the Windhoek's Independence Stadium pitch, as it is earmarked as best facility for the intended purpose of the agreement.
"The grass turf at the facility requires attention and SportFive have committed to ensure that the turf is perfected in time for the matches to take place", added an elated Rukoro.
In addition SportFive will also help market Namibia as a country and the NFA's image and lure prospective international friendly matches.
The sports rights marketing agency SportFive belongs to the French media group Lagardere and markets, the television and marketing rights of more than 30 football clubs and more than 270 other athletes and sports clubs (mostly from the fields, handball, volleyball, boxing, rugby and rally sport), and will be the main sponsor for Juventus FC new stadium in 2011, paying for the construction of the stadium and for the naming rights to the stadium.
The company was created in 2001 from a merger of sports marketers of RTL Group and Canal Plus and was taken over in November 2006 for 865 million Euros from Lagardere. In 2006, SportFive reported a turnover of approximately 500 million Euros. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SportFive Group since October 2007 Richard Worth, previously the marketing of the UEFA Champions League Team AG led. And its Chief Operating Officer (COO) is the former English professional football Trevor Birch.

National U/16 in Training Camp
Twenty-Seven players will report for camp this weekend as the NFA under-16 team sets to prepare for African under-17 Championships qualifiers in 2010.
The team that was selected at the NFA Under-16 Championships in Gobabis few months back meets at Soccer House on Friday afternoon under the watchful eyes of Coach Willem Kapukare and his assistant Turipamue Upi and NFA Technical Director Klaus Staerk. "It is the first time to bring these boys to Windhoek and we have to induct them to the national team setting, code of conduct and so forth, "We will be having two more camps with them as next year they will be our under-17 team since the other group (that defeat South Afrcia-3-1 recently) have graduated to under-20s now", Kapukare said. The NFA also plans to have an international friendly match for the team this year: "We are hopeful to get an international opponent before the end of the year just to expose the boys to that level as soon as possible" added Upi. The squad is dominated by seven players from the city of Windhoek team, four from Rehoboth, with Leonardville, Okakarara, Ondangwa, Ongwediva and champions of the NFA Under-16 Champions Otjiwarongo, all represented as well.
The camp ends on Saturday afternoon with players set to depart back to their respective towns on Sunday morning.

Brave Warriors Play SA
With the COSAFA Castle Challenge underway, quarterfinalists Namibia and South Africa will meet in Windhoek on Tuesday in a friendly match as they prepare for a good showing at the regional football showpiece.
The Namibia Football Association received an invite from SAFA recently to host their Development team that will compete at the COSAFA Cup this year, and the NFA agreed to play them at the Sam Nujoma Stadium at 19h00, with an entrance fee N$20.
Brave Warriors coach Tom Saintfiet revealed that two professional players in Hartman Toromba and Sydney Plaatjies will be part of the squad that comes in to camp on Sunday afternoon, so will Civics goalkeeper Ephraim Tjihonge.
"Ephraim is replacing the injured Arnold Subeb and Hartman and Sydney has been released to join us.
" I need to have a training session on Sunday afternoon/night and two on Monday and one on Tuesday morning and I hope to use the same team that play South Africa that night at the COSAFA match against Zambia", Saintfiet said.
The South Africans will be in the Windhoek this weekend as they play NPL campaigners Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon at 16h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium with N$ 20 at the gate.
The COSAFA Cup defending champions, South Africa is sending a development squad consisting of players from the Under-20 and Under-23, with Simon Ngomane and Khabo Zondo joint coaches.
The Tafel lager Brave Warriors leaves for Zimbabwe on 22 October and engage Zambia on Sunday 25 October with the Amabinneplaas to play Angola in the quarterfinals of this year's competition the next day.

Mozambique and Zambia have sealed their berths into the Last 4 of the 2009 COSAFA Senior Challenge with wins at the Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Sunday.
Mozambique edged Malawi 1-0, while Zambia downed Namibia by the same scoreline in the second game of the day.
The Mambas had Man of the Match Josemar Machaisse to thank for their win as he finished off a brilliant counter-attack move for the Mozambique to steer them into the next round.
It was a deserved victory for Mart Nooij's side in a game that was a battle between to of the COSAFA teams remaining in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Following that, Stopilla Sunzu scored five minutes from time to claim the win for Herve Renard's Zambia but they rode their luck at times against the less-fancied Brave Warriors.
Sebastien Mwanza had an early chance for Zambia that went wide, before Namibia goalkeeper Athiel Mbaha made a brilliant save from Sunzu's header.
Luka Lungu almost toe-poked the ball home after a mix-up between Mbaha and defender George Hummel, but the sides went into the break level.
Referee Abdul Ebrahim awarded Zambia a penalty when he adjudged Ralph Ellinger to have fouled Lungu inside the box, but more frustration followed for Zambia as Henry Banda saw his effort saved.
But Sunzu saved the day with a good finish late on and the Zambians could celebrate their passage into the semifinals.

The President, Executive Committee, Staff members and the entire football family in Namibia express our heartfelt shock and dismay about the death of our Referee Mr. Mathew Kafu Katjimune who passed away on the 28th October 2009.
We have lost a great person in the development of football and we acknowledge his role as a dedicated referee.
His contribution to the game in Namibia and the World will always be remembered.

Youth Coaching a Success - 22 November 2009
The NFA-DFB Youth Coaching Licence Course was concluded on Friday at Soccer House with 50 successful participants with 12 short of the desired results.
The two-week programme attracted 66 youth coaching aspirants before four pulled out midway through the course due to personal reasons.
The course was conducted by NFA technical Director Klaus Staerk and German Football Federation Instructor Nicolai Adam.
The duo took the participants through various topics on youth coaching such as profession of coaching, factors of performance in modern football and basic exercises to get used to the ball.
The participants also learned about communication with players, planning and preparing training sessions and coaching points.
Amongst the participants were legends Lemmy Narib, Crooks Nunuheb and Wagga Goagoseb, who was exited about the course outcome.
"It was such a great initiative and I have learned a lot from it and surely now maybe at (African) Stars I can help with youth football as well" says Goagoseb, who is assistant coach to Bobby Samaria. He added that he also intends to help youngster from his Dolam location in Katutura. In his closing remarks Youth Development through Football (YDF) official Isak Hamata reminded participants of the importance of youth coaching before informing them that YDF will select three of the participants who will go attended a training camp in South Africa to become trainers. " You then come back home to train others and we trust you all that from now on we can see tangible changes in your immediate areas of location with regard to youth football and remember that our office is here fro you", Hamata said.
The 12 participants who failed the course this time around will be given a second chance early next year before the NFA host a C-Licence fro youth coaching Course in Namibia.

Nam U/20 in Training - 22 November 2009
Namibia's under-20 squad is in training camp in Windhoek with 23 players called up to prepare for the COSAFA U-20 Youth Championships in South Africa next month.
The team have a couple of new faces with the most notable one, Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) youthful keeper Andre Fug and the return of Absalom Imbodi to the fray.
Namibia opens the championships with a date against host South Africa on December 6 at Dobsonville. Namibia then plays Comoros on December 11 at Eldorado Park with their final Group A match to be on December 11 against the Seychelles at Dobsonville. The competition will require member nations to submit their final team lists by November 27 which will include 20 players, five officials, plus a referee who has been appointed by the COSAFA Referee Committee. But according to Namibia Team Manager Jakes Amaning, the team that will be trimmed to 18 travelling players and they are expected to leave on December 3. " we only take 20 players because at the end of the day u only use 18 players so its also a cost-costing measure for us as we are driving to these tournaments", Amaning explained.
Namibia will be represented by Alex Tiyeho in the middle of the park with no assistant's referees from Namibia selected by the committee.
NFA technical Director Klaus Staerk and SKW coach Richard Starke continues to manage the team.
The competition ends on December 15.

Press release - Namibia's Women Under-20 team Face Botswana - 29 November 2009
Namibia's Women Under-20 team is in training for their FIFA U-20 World Women Championships African qualifier against Botswana on Friday in Gaborone. According to Jacky Gertze, head of the NFA Women Desk, 27 girls has been in camp since Monday and the squad will be trimmed to 20 travelling players, to be accompanied by five officials this week.
"We have a great squad together and the spirit is good. We are looking at doing well in Gaborone before the return leg in Windhoek", Gertze said.
The first leg match will be played at the University of Gaborone Stadium on Friday night at 19h00 with the second leg to be staged in Windhoek on December 20, preferably at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
The team includes six players from the Namibian COSSASA Under-17 Ball Games. The players are Senapha Koolman, Tomalina Adams, Albertina Davis, Melanie Hiknam, Mellissa Goliath and Monique Krone. The team is captained by Okahandja Beauties sensation Susanne Eises. Gertze also revealed that former African Stars and Eleven Arrows coach Zimbabwean Gilbert Rwasoka, who is assistant to national coach Jacqueline Shipanga, will lead the team in Botswana in the absence of Shipanga who will on FIFA duties abroad. The team travels to Botswana on Tuesday morning.
Africa's have had only two representative at the bi-annual championship of late since the third edition in 2006, with perennial competitors Nigeria and DR Congo and the duo are firm favorites once gain to book their places for the June 26- July 27 Showpiece in Germany. The United States of America are the defending World Champions having won it in 2008 and 2002, with China (2006) and Germany (2004) with one win each.

NFA Committed to Lower Divisions - 5/12/09
The Namibia Football Association is committed to lower division football, despite meagre resources at the Association, President John Muinjo told the 19th NFA Congress on Saturday.
The President who touched down from the FIFA 2010 World Draw on Saturday morning, reminded Congress members that lower division leagues remains a priority as the association continues to search for finances.
" Also, the training of club officials in management courses as well as league administrators and referees will continue, resources permitting" Muinjo said in his President's address. Only three of the 13 second division leagues, Khomas, Hardap and Karas have started with the 2009/10 season.
The NFA last week signed a deal with Moola Mobile aimed at promoting the game of football in the country and generate income for the Association to fund lower leagues football, primarily. He added that the NFA establishment of youth leagues will be intensified and the technical department of the Association is to offer nine more basic level coaching courses with five more coaching course aimed at women football.
FIFA will again return to Namibia on April 6-11 2010 for a Club Administration Course for Second Division and First Division clubs, immediately after the annual Namibian Newspaper Cup whish is to be played on April 2 to 5. The NFA congress also endorsed the nomination of Kwella Kapenda as the Vice President of the mother body with Frans Mbidi joining the executive committee too. The Congress also learned about the resignation of Executive, member Isak Fredericks who also relinquished his chairmanship of the Karas football region, with vice-chairman Harry Jahs to coordinate the region in the meantime.
The financial statements of the association were also perused and ratified by the members fro the financial year ending 31 March 2009 and the budget for 2011 approved as well.

Windhoek, 7th of December 2009 Subject: Goalkeeper Coaching Course
The NFA Coaching Department announces a Coaching Course for Goalkeeper Coaches and interested Goalkeepers.
The course will be held in Windhoek from 18th to 22nd of January 2010 and starts on Monday 18th at 11:00 hours at the soccer house in Katutura!
The contents of the course are practical training and theoretical lessons. The course will end with practical and written examinations.
Successful participants will receive a NFA Goalkeeper Coaching License.
The course will be for free and NFA will provide lunch during this course.
We kindly invite all interested Goalkeeper Coaches and Goalkeepers.
